Intern Development Program (IDP)

The Intern Development Program (IDP) is a comprehensive training program created to ensure that interns in the architecture profession gain the knowledge and skills required for the independent practice of architecture upon completion of the program..

One must complete the training requirements to become a licensed architect. In most U.S. states, this training requirement is fulfilled by completing the IDP. The program is designed to take about three years and can be begun prior to graduation when the appropriate requirements are fulfilled.

In the United States, the IDP was created jointly in the 1970's by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is administered by NCARB.
